1. Introduction In Islamic eschatology, death is not an end but a transition from the temporal world ( dunyā ) to the eternal abode ( ākhirah ). Upon burial, Muslims believe the deceased enters a realm called Barzakh (the interspace), where the first stage of posthumous questioning by the angels Munkar and Nakīr occurs.
