1. Introduction The Langstroth beehive is the most common beehive design in the world, patented in 1852 by Reverend Lorenzo Lorraine Langstroth. Its revolutionary feature is the "bee space" (3/8 inch or 9.5 mm) – a gap bees will not fill with propolis or comb, allowing movable frames.
