His name is Jack Dawson. He won his ticket in a poker game. He’s a vagabond artist from Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin who lives for freedom, sketching Parisian alleyways and California piers. He talks Rose down by promising to join her in the water — “I’m an excellent swimmer.” She slips; he pulls her to safety. Cal arrives, dismisses Jack as a peasant, but Rose insists on thanking him properly. Cal invites Jack to dinner the next night.

That night, Jack borrows a tuxedo and faces the first-class dining saloon. He is raw, honest, and out of place. He explains that he has nothing but “life’s necessities — food, water, a roof, and the hope that tomorrow will be a better day.” The aristocrats stare. Cal mocks him. Rose’s mother sneers. But Rose is captivated.

The clock reads 2:20 AM. They kiss. The crowd applauds.
